How to Prioritize God in a Busy Season

Life can often feel like a whirlwind. It's easy to let time with God slip through the cracks between work, family, social commitments, and personal goals. But even in the busiest seasons, God calls us to draw near to Him, seeking His presence and guidance. Prioritizing God isn’t about adding another task to your list—it’s about making Him the center of your life, so everything else falls into place. Here are five simple tips to help you amid your busy season.

1. Start Your Day with God

“But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” — Matthew 6:33 AMP

One of the best ways to prioritize God is by beginning your day in His presence. Whether through prayer, Bible reading, or simply sitting quietly with Him, making God the first part of your day sets the tone for everything else.

Think of it as tithing your time. Just as we tithe financially to show that God comes first in our resources, starting your day with Him says, “God, you are first in my life.” In essence, if we are to tithe our time, that would be about 2.4 hours (144 minutes) a day spent with God. Sometimes we can't even manage 5 minutes with Him, but I challenge you to at least one hour of the 2.4 hours a day, and tell me how it goes. Split that hour in parts if need be, but one hour a day could be your challenge for a week.

Personal Reflection:

  • How do I typically start my day?

  • Can I spend more than 5 minutes with God? More than 10, 15 or 30 minutes?

  • What can I adjust in my routine to prioritize time with God first thing?

  • If I were to spend an hour or 2.4 hours with God a day, what would that look like?

2. Integrate God into Your Daily Routine

Be unceasing and persistent in prayer; — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP

We often think of time with God as something separate from the rest of our day. But Sis, the truth is that God desires to be part of every moment and second of your day and life. You can talk to Him as you drive, pray as you work, worship as you clean, thank Him as you complete a task, or meditate on Scripture as you take a break.

The beauty of a relationship with God is that it’s not confined to a set time or place. Carry Him with you throughout your day. Take God out of the confines, box, and chains you set on Him, and be free in your relationship with Him.

Personal Reflection:

  • How can I invite God into the mundane or busy moments of my day?

  • Are there specific times when I could incorporate prayer or reflection?

3. Create Space for God in Your Schedule

Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God.I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.” — Psalm 46:10 AMP

In a season of busyness, stillness and event rest may seem like a luxury, but Sis, it’s a necessity for our spiritual health. Just as we schedule time for work, appointments, or family, we must intentionally create time to sit with God.

Start small if needed. Maybe it’s 5 or 10 minutes of reading Scripture after dinner or a quiet time of prayer before bed. The key is consistency and intentionality.

Personal Reflection:

  • What is one small, consistent time I can dedicate to spending with God this week?

  • How can I create space for stillness even when life is chaotic?

4. Trust God with Your Time

Commit your way to the Lord;Trust in Him also and He will do it..” — Psalm 37:5 AMP

Sometimes, we feel like we don’t have enough time to fit everything in. But God promises to take care of us when we trust Him. When we prioritize time with God, He often multiplies our efficiency and provides the peace we need to handle our responsibilities.

Rather than clinging to our schedules, we can trust that God will provide the strength and wisdom to accomplish what truly matters.

Personal Reflection:

  • Am I willing to trust God with my time, even when I feel overwhelmed?

  • In what areas of my life do I need to release control to Him?

5. Give yourself grace!

For sin will no longer be a master over you, since you are not under Law [as slaves], but under [unmerited] grace [as recipients of God’s favor and mercy]. — Romans 6:14 AMP

Sometimes we are so hard on ourselves that we forget that no to-do list, no stress, or no amount of trying to stick to our structure and schedule will get us before the Father as pure, holy, or into the Kingdom of God.

It is by grace through faith that we are saved, so if God through Christ can give us grace, why can't we give ourselves grace? Giving ourselves grace will allow us to be able to move without worry, stress, or being confined to what we think should be.

Personal Reflection:

  • Where do I need to give myself grace?

  • How can I give myself grace in this season?

Busy seasons come and go Sis, but God’s faithfulness is constant. By making small but consistent efforts to prioritize Him, you’ll experience His peace and guidance, even in the most hectic of times. Don’t wait for life to slow down before you seek Him. Instead, invite Him into your busy moments, and watch how He transforms your days.

Scriptures to Keep Close:

  • Matthew 11:28-30 AMP: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.

  • Proverbs 16:3 AMP: “Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].

  • Philippians 4:6-7 AMP: “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

A Prayer for Busy Seasons:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your constant presence in our lives. Even when we feel overwhelmed and busy, we know You are with us. Help us to seek You first and to trust You with our time. Remind us that You are our source of strength and peace. Please give us the wisdom to create space for You in our day and the discipline to keep You at the center of all that we do. Thank You for loving us and for guiding our steps. We do not take for granted the grace You give us, and we ask that You show us how to give ourselves grace and to move in that grace. In Jesus’ precious and holy name we pray, Amen.

Sis, know that I love you and I'm always praying for you.
